Jenna Gearing

Jenna Gearing is a woman of many talents. She’s a fieldsports sculptor, commissioned by brands including Browning, Holland & Holland and Beretta. She is an accomplished deerstalker and shooter. She was brought up holding a gun. Her dad Rob Gearing invented the Javelin bipod system for rifles.
Her sculpting work takes her all over the world and she has worked with many different sporting brands.
She says: “I’m really enjoying my sculpting so I have been doing plenty of deer and hopefully will be working with Rigby at the beginning of next year, in Las Vegas and Dallas.
“So really, my work is heading towards the whole hunting aspect. I’m also doing a commission for my friend who won extreme huntress USA, for a roe buck which she shot that was filmed by Fieldsports Channel.
“I have plenty of work on now and long may it continue.”
Not only does she enjoy hunting, she feels that the process gives her artistic inspiration when it comes to her sculpting. “When I’m sculpting dogs, horses and deer. It does help knowing where all the muscles are. When you’re out shooting and gralloch a deer you do learn so much about the anatomy,” she says. ““I don’t like sitting up in a high seat if I can help it. I feel that if you have stalked into something you have earnt it.
“It’s a much nicer process and it just feels so much more rewarding when you go to cook it. I think as a young generation we don’t have a respect from where it came from, especially as meat is so readily available.”
Her work doesn’t stop there, Jenna’s latest project involves promotional work launching a brand-new shotgun for gunmaker Sauer, the Artemis, a line of shotguns specifically designed for women.
“I do normally shoot a 20-bore and I normally shoot with my brother’s gun which,” (she claims) “has the shortest stock known to mankind. But, shooting with an over-and-under is much more practical. I enjoy it more and I hit more.
“I do love a nice little light gun. The Sauer Artemis is very comfortable. I have gone along to moors in Scotland and carried a 12 bore for hours and hours. By the end of the day I’m feeling tired, but this is light as anything.”
For the launch of the new range, Sauer used Jenna and her sister, Ellen, as models for the posters and brochures. “I am not the biggest fan of photography or being photographed but we had the most wonderful day with Robert.” – Robert Sajitz is chiefe executive of Sauer’s UK importer, Blaser Sporting.
“We were there a good few hours but it was lovely, in a nice chilled environment and everyone had a very good time.”
